Listen to the New Single from Mareux & King Woman
With over five million music video views on youtube, Mareux’s song “The Perfect Girl” is by far his most well-known song. Like the majority of listeners, I first heard the song via Tik Tok. Luckily, front man (I could not find their pronouns, please contact me if this needs to be edited) Aryan Ashtiani avoided becoming solely known as a tik tok one hit wonder. If anything, I hope it has helped lead listeners to his work. Today Ashtiani released a new single with one of my favorite musicians, Kristina Esfandiari.
I first learned of Esfandiari through her band King Woman. They played a show in New Orleans years ago and I had a lovely conversation with her, although only briefly. She was kind and warm. It was before I got clean/sober so unfortunately I do not remember most of the interaction. I do remember that she took my hand and lead me through the back of the venue, leaving through the back door and speak on the sidewalk while I smoked a cigarette. I listen to her other project, Miserable, the most.

Together, Mareux and King Woman created his newest release entitled “Glass.” I love it. It begins with a beat akin to “Blue Monday” by New Order. But Mareux succeeds in taking 1980s influences and creating making it his own. At the 1:30 mark Esfandiari comes in softly to sing in tandem with Ashtiani.
I am now listening to Mareux’s earliest album (at least the earliest I found on spotify) and I really enjoy it! I am a sucker for lo-fi synth. If you’re a fan of Black Marble you’re sure to love his 2013 album entitled Decade.
